31st Post: Fly, My Papers~

I'm happy and worried at the same time right now. I just finished preparing all the stuff for my Early Decision and they're going to be fly off tomorrow. Finally, the torturous process which has last for a few damn months is going to end! I wanna play games, watch anime and enjoy myself, yea~... Dream on, SAT subject test result is going to be released in 2 days time, my college internal UCAS deadline and YKLS production is 2 weeks ahead, the week after is my mock exam followed immediately by my college stage play... And the worst thing is I didn't noticed this until I'm typing this right now... (=.=|||). But I'm still happy, I don't care! But that doesn't stop me from worrying as well. I sound like a miserable idiot... I guess I should stop ranting because this is all I did these days.

Enough about my life. To make this dull blog more lively, I shall share a joke by the stand up comedian, Douglas Lim during the opening day of the actors studio. He began by saying that there was a policy in Malaysia that any programme aired in Malaysia has to be made in only one language, there shouldn't any mixing of the languages like rojak. (Which I think is impossible considering all the 'I nak dress itu.' and 'You nak minum tea ke?' that appeared in the malay drama) So he continued and said that it is very difficult to do so, especially at a mamak stall which is ubiquitous in Malaysia. Imagine the director want to shoot a scene at the mamak stall using only English.

So he sit down an call: Mamak! Mamak!
"CUT!!" What?
"You must say Indian Muslim instead of mamak."
So he sit down again: ...Indian Muslim! Indian Muslim! One Nasi Lemak!
"CUT!!" WTH?
"You shouldn't say Nasi Lemak --" OK, OK! I know I know, do it again.
So he sit down again: Indian Muslim! Indian Muslim! One Fatty Rice! Less Chilli Paste!

OK, up until now I was laughing my mouth off already. I'm sure it's much more interesting to hear him crack the joke on stage. Actually the joke continues but the last one is kinda 18PL so you imagine yourself la. Feel free to try that during your next visit to the mamak stall, oh I mean Indian Muslim stall. XD

30th Post: Rhythmic Roots

Just a small update to promote my upcoming performance:

Great Eastern
presents

The Young KL Singers
in
Rhythmic Roots
celebrating the cultural and musical heritage that is Malaysia.

Last year, we explored the development of jazz. This year, we are exploring our cultural roots.

As in years past, The Young KL Singers (YKLS) will once more be staging another exciting upcoming production entitled “Rhythmic Roots”, from 12th to 15th November 2009, in the Actors Studio, LOT 10.

Our group of 30 passionate, music-loving performers enters its 11th production since its inception in 2002, after achieving outstanding success in previous shows including the sold-out performances of “Simply Andrew Lloyd Webber” and “Breaking It Down!”. Two of our performances, “Through the Barricades” and “Move It!”, have won the Kakiseni Audience Choice Award in the Boh Cameronian Arts Awards in 2003 and 2007 respectively. In all 10 productions, the choir has performed a wide repertoire of music, ranging from Broadway musical pieces by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rogers and Hammerstein, to the colourful rhythms and rhymes of jazz. After many years of primarily Western repertoire however, The YKLS were inspired to discover our own roots by looking to the music originating within the multiracial cultures of Malaysia and other Asian countries. This became the impetus for this year’s production, aptly entitled “Rhythmic Roots”.

“Rhythmic Roots” is a journey through the various ethnicities and cultures of Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, China and India, and our indispensable contributions to our own cultural heritage. Baba and Nyonya folk songs, Malay and Indian traditional pieces, and songs tracing the development of Chinese culture in Malaysia from its mainland China origins are some of the highlights that will definitely be heard in this upcoming production. It will be directed by Joe Hasham, a multi-award winning director, actor and writer and his involvement in “Rhythmic Roots” is something that the YKLS is very excited about!

One thing that makes this production unique amongst all other past YKLS productions is that for the first time, all four co-founders of the choir are working together. “Rhythmic Roots” is truly a very special show which emphasizes the importance of origins – where we come from, who we are, and the many, many influences and cultures which have shaped Malaysia’s musical heritage into what it is today. This is definitely something not to be missed.

Songs that would be sung during the show:
Aeyaya Balano Sakh-Kah-D (Konkani/Indian)
Yuet Kwong Kwong (Chinese Cantonese)
Gai Bintang (Indonesian Madurese)

29th Post: Mixed bag

Just had a terrible/great weekend, how so? I woke up on saturday morning on 6am after sleeping for 5 hours++ to get to metropolitan college for SAT subject test. And to tell the truth, that is my first time taking a whole test in the specified time. Much to my surprise, the test that I really rushed (like finishing the last 20 question in 10 minutes...) is actually chemistry which I have most confident in. Ah~ life is unpredictable T.T... The only thing I can do now is pray hard for my result.

Then after the test, I went to lot 10 (it's a shopping centre in Bukit Bintang, where those high class people hang out at) to perform in the opening night of the new actors studio. Many VIPs like officials from Australian Embassy, Japan Embassy, Singapore Embassy and all those Datuk(s) and Datin(s) came. The best part is I got to perform on the same stage with some of the best artists in the country~ All those bad feelings from SAT disappeared after that. But I was extremely exhausted and fell asleep immediately after I went back. That's all for today's brief update. See ya, folks.

28th Post: Madness

It's been a long time since I last updated. It's been freaking busy, and I mean it. Just hope that everything will go well for October and things will start to calm down a bit. So what sort of mess I'm getting myself into? Firstly, all those cumbrous university application stuff. UCAS(UK) and Common app(US) early decision deadline's one month ahead, and I haven't even started my personal statement for UCAS nor finish my essay for Common app... Then I have to prepare for the SAT Subject tests as well. Actually I didn't plan to take the subject tests as the US colleges to do not require me to. Ironically NUS do and it even made me take 3 subjects. Well, life is not a bed of roses after all. The test is 2 weeks ahead and I just finished half of the dictionary-like Physics textbook, how the hell la I'm going to get myself well prepared in just so little time left. For those who don't understand what the rubbish I'm talking about, it's just some rant about how cumbersome overseas university application process can be. But these stuffs would not be enough to get me THIS frustrated, not until I add in all the other activities.

My Young KL Singers upcoming production is in early November as well, and the rehearsal is getting more intense with 3 hours long practice thrice a week. Further more I have to spend more than 1 hours just to travel to the rehearsal venue, gosh~ Then I've foolishly got myself involved in the stage play organised by our college as well, which would be in early December with 2 hours practice twice a week. The play is George Bernard Shaw's 'Man and Superman' and man, it's just damn wordy that I dunno how the hell I'm going to memorize it. All of these add together = CRISIS!! I seriously dunno how to divide my time to complete all of them in the best way possible. Well, first thing I gotta do is to put this blog on short term hiatus, till the day we meet again...

27th Post: BalloonS

After procrastinating for such a long time, I finally bring myself to update this dilapidated blog... Well, today I just watched UP by Disney and Pixar. The show starts off with a short animation clip 'Partly Cloudy' which is exuding charm right from the beginning till the end even though it's just few minutes long. The story is about clouds creating babies for different living beings including human, dogs and cats. I won't spoil the story to you, but for those who have watched, my favorite is the balloon-like crocodile.

Move on to the main part, UP is definitely one of the best animation to come from Disney in recent years, I would even use 'epic' to describe it. It was not just a commercial cartoon which tell its story in a plain vanilla fashion and try to inundate us with the overwhelming cuteness. Those animations may have made a lot of money, but at the same time it was also forgettable. That wasn't to say that UP isn't cute, it is indeed VERY cute, especially the chubby little boy. But there was more to its superficial cuteness; beyond the hilarious adventure by the duo(the other being the stubborn old man), I can clearly feel the theme of undying love and lifelong dream, and what made it great is that the animators were able to capture such profound theme perfectly in an animation which main selling point should be cuteness and jokes. I wholeheartedly recommend UP to everyone, children and adult alike, definitely not to be missed!

26th Post: Black Tuesday

Not in the mood to blog lately, but heck, I'll do it for the sake of doing it. Decided to go back to Kuantan yesterday, so I went to Pudu to buy bus ticket at about 3pm. Once I arrived there, I got dragged by a Malay to buy the ticket from Sutra Liner (supposedly that's the name, couldn't bother less to remember that lousy bus company's name) even though I originally wanted to buy my ticket from Transnational. Didn't think much about it as I thought it wouldn't make any difference. (which I'm proven wrong later)

Anyway, the bus is scheduled to depart at 4.30pm, so I waited there patiently. However, the bus still hasn't arrive at 5pm. So the other passengers and I were told to wait upstairs. Suddenly all the passengers swarmed to the company's booth and so I followed them soon after, then we were told that the bus break down and would only arrive later. Apparently the Malay worker had a quarrel with one of the Indian passenger about the refund stuff and they almost fight, it's not my business but that took up a lot of my time to get my money back.

A friendly Malay passenger told me that I can get a 6.30 ticket from Transnational, but by the time I got there the ticket for 6.30pm was sold out and the next bus would be 8.30pm. I wandered around and asked all the other booths but none has earlier bus to Kuantan. In the end, I gave up and bought the 8.30pm bus ticket. Buying the ticket from the Sutra Liner is the profoundest mistake I've ever made, I curse that freaking company sincerely: hope you'll bankrupt soon. And so I waited at the Pudu bus station from before 3pm to 8.30pm and reach Kuantan at almost 12.30am! I almost choke from all the carbon monoxide there, one of the most miserable day in my life. I shall affirm my stand again: Curse you, Sutra Liner and I'll never buy another ticket from your company again.

25th Post: Eye Candies

Thought of updating the blog, but nothing to write about, so I'll share some pics in this new post, from the exciting 'Alice in the wonderland' movie by Tim Burton! First up, posters for the characters:

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter

Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen

Anne Hathaway as The White Queen

Matt Lucas as Tweedledee & Tweedledum

They look nothing short of fantastic in their meticulously crafted costumes and make-up. And here's some eye-catching concept arts for the movie:

Alice and the talking flowers

Alice and the HUGE rabbit

Alice and the enigmatic twins

As a bonus, here's a snap shot for everyone's favorite Chesire Cat XD

I'm so looking forward to the movie, being set to premiere on March 2010 tentatively, don't forget to mark it down on your 'to watch' list!

24th Post: Crabs

Do you like to eat crabs? No, this post isn't about me eating crabs or how delicious they are. I recently came cross news about protecting crabs. Apparently, laws to protect animal generally only applies to vertebrate(don't throw away your bio just yet), but then there are moves to include the laws to crabs and lobsters as well(yup, the ones you eat at seafood restaurant) in the European countries. The reason for them to do so is because they found out that crabs have nervous system similar to us, so they deduce that they would experience pain as well.

Imagine when you boil the lobsters alive, they would scream like: OH~~ OH~~ my meat, my delicious meat is excruciatingly painful because of some ravenous human being who boiled me to fill their stomach!! So they think they can torture us like this just because they are some human being!! OH~~ OH~~ this is so inhumane and they still call themselves human being!! OH~~ OH~~ Can't they imagine the feeling of being boiled in such hot water of 100 degree celcius? Don't they have any intelligence at all and yet they still call themselves human being....

Ok, let's stop here. I'll leave the rest to your imagination but I guess you would have understand by now.=D But would a crab really experience pain just because they have the nervous system? Crabs can hear too, but do you REALLY think they know how to enjoy opera(by Sarah Brightman)? Some proposed that crab would not feel pain because their nervous system would fail at 25 degree celcius, so it would be a mistake to include them in the welfare laws. Well, what do you think?

23rd Post: Emoness

It's been quite some time since I last blogged, just not in the mood to do so even right now, just doing this to keep the blog alive. I wouldn't really associate 'emo' with me usually, but somehow I got kinda emo plus stressful lately thanks to all those terrible essays topics that I need to write for the university application. All those topics are like wanting to dig into the deepest core of my soul and find out what's really hidden in there. I have to ask myself all sorts of abstract question that test me on my understanding to life and myself. At this rate I will be bald in a few months time... Ok, time to give this emo person some time to calm down...

p/s: OMG, I just thought that it is a coincidence, but one of the university I'm applying to, Colgate University actually have a strong tie with William Colgate, the maker of Colgate Toothpaste!

22nd Post: 'Salesman'

Baaa~sically, this is what happened today: When I passed through the LRT station, I was stopped by a guy. He started with something to do with recycling but after that he began to crap to me in a very natural manner(he spoke in guang dong dialect by the way).

"Where are you from?"
"What are you doing here then?"
"Where are you studying?"
"Do you have a girlfriend?"

OK~~what the hell has this to do with you? But I answered them politely anyway. Then he showed me a box and said it was 100% handmade by disabled people. Then he once again digress away from the topic and crap again like girls love these handmade stuff and its perfect to put in rings. It was a tactic to distract my attention and yet I didn't notice it at that time.

Finally, he asked me to write my name down on a piece of paper and sign there without telling me what's it for. I was too naive and didn't suspect anything and did what was told even though it is as clear as the bright sun shining at 12pm that his move was as fishy as a fish pie with a fish beside it. Then he finally revealed his true motive and said: "Now how much would you paid to help these poor kid?"

...I paused for a moment as a result of losing track of what's going on. When the truth finally dawned on me, it was already too late and I wrote my name on the paper already. He told me that if I donate at least rm20 I can get the box he showed me earlier but I insisted donating rm10 only.

I actually don't mind donating that rm10 but somehow I think his technique of getting donation ain't that appropriate, it seems to me as some kind of unscrupulous salesman technique which shouldn't be adopted by charity worker. Well, at least I do admit that he has some potential to become a top salesman...

21st Post: Zombie

I feel terrible right now, which is the last thing that should happen after I finished my exam which had lasted for a whole long month. Don't get me wrong, I ain't feeling bad because I did badly in my last paper, even if I do, I won't care right now anyway.

I'll start with the moment which my exam finishes; my friends and I decided to go for dinner together. After that, I was dragged to a nearby cybercafe to play a zombie-shooting-game called 'Left 4 Dead' if my memory serves me right. Playing half way through, I felt that my stomach squirmed and the urge of vomitting struck me unexpectedly. I felt extremely disgusted at the splashing blood and inhumane massacre...like hell, the 3D models are damn fake and anyone who pity the killed zombie must've had excessive compassion that would only possessed by a resident of asylum. In fact, the thing that made me feel like vomitting is the spinning camera(it's in first person viewpoint, which made me even more dizzy), I'm not used to playing this kind of game to begin with, moreover I actually play the game right after I have my dinner. Luckily I pulled out after a while or I would've puke at the computer screen.

This incident further add on to my bad impression towards shooting game, guess I better avoid them once and for all...Anyway, after I finally get the exams part done, it's time to start doing some extensive university research already. University application part is coming soon and there's A LOT to prepare...maybe after I recover from this nauseous feeling, urgh...

20th Post: PAIN

A few day ago, I went to Giant to buy something. Then I heard a terrible song playing from the speaker. The lyrics supposedly sound like 'OH~~Sakitnya jiwa ini~~' and the male singer is singing in such a monotonous voice; unsurprisingly his voice just sounded so~ 'terrific' when combined with the minor tone of the melody. And what echoed in my mind is 'OH~Sakitnya telingaku...'. I tried to ignore it and continue to shop. Then suddenly the singer just raised his pitch and shout the word 'KESAKITAN~~~~~' with a shrilling voice and dragged it on indefinitely to the point that my ear almost bleed. At that instant I feel like just walking out of Giant without buying anything... Conclusion is: It's better to just turn off the radio if the song from it is going to turn away the customers.

After a few days, I went to Giant again... and the same song is playing again~~ What the hell is wrong with it!?

19th Post: Define horror

Warning: the following information is not for children, pregnant woman and those with heart diseases.

On a dark night which the moon was concealed by the stifling cloud, I was walking out of the hostel...

"Hmm? What's that......Aaaarrrrgggghhhh~~!!"

It's...it's...a banner of 'World Halal Forum'! Furthermore, there's...there's this 'Ke arah mencapai integriti halal sedunia' sentence printed on it~~!!

...So, what the hell are they going to discuss during the forum? Worldwide banning of pork? I know peole were threatened by the imminent outbreak of H1N1 virus recently, but I still don't see the point of holding such a forum...

Speaking of which, seems like Malaysia has officially joined the list of countries affected by swine flu, apparently a student who just returned from a trip to America recently was affected by it. Just hope that it wonldn't turned out to be a catastrophic pandemic once again...

I guess that's all for today, actually I have lots to blog these days but no time to do so, back to exam preparation~

18th Post: Happy Labor Day!

It's Labour Day!! Happy Labor Day everyone, this is the day when you can finally reward yourself with some (transient and illusory) break from all your (torturous and unbearable) hard work (affiliated to sadism), have fun~!!... How I wish I can say this to a miserable individual who is going to face the enervating SAT tomorrow... Still, I decided to spare myself some time to update this nearly dilapidated blog before it is being deserted once more.

After being inundated by the whole list of club activities and the young kl singers' unyielding rehearsal schedule, I can finally progress more leniently, or so I think until the fact that I have not prepared enough for my SAT in order to achieve the ideal score soon dawned. Entangled in the cruel netting of fate, I realized the situation is further exacerbated when the harsh reality that I'll be having my A-levels mock exam and SAT simultaneously, which implies that I'll have to make a painful decision of which to prioritize. After careful deliberation, SAT won and so I'm pretty much obssesed with it for the past few weeks, not a pleasant experience though.

And so, the judgement day is finally approaching -- I'll be taking SAT tomorrow! Wish me luck~! Ok then, I should stop dawdling and go back to study. By the way, I guess I won't be updating the blog in a while due to the incoming A-levels external exams. Till next time...

p/s: Please disregard the florid language, I'm just practicing for SAT.:)

17th Post: April 1st

I have to warn you beforehand as this post is basically a filler post to satisfy my whim, so please just close your browser if you are looking for some anecdotes. As a matter of fact, this post is dedicated these important fictitious characters to me:
Happy Birthday to Watanuki! And~~
Syaoran
Sakura
Happy Birthday to you two as well! Yes, April 1st is the birthday to Watanuki, Syaoran and Sakura(not to be confused with the younger version from Cardcaptor Sakura)! And more pics from their newest animation:
watanuki, as eccentric as always
Doumeki, with his usual calm demeanor
Doumeki, still calm even when his mouth is so full XD
Yuuko, with a mystical aura around her
Sakura and Syaoran, with sakura tree behind them
Fay, giving his remaining magical power to yuuko
Kurogane and Tomoyo, reunited at long last
Finally, happy birthday to these three again~

Both of my favourite manga, tsubasa resevoir chronicle and xxxholic is going to end soon. It's been a long time since I first saw them at year 2003, though I am happy to see an ending that will conclude both stories perfectly, at the same time I feel kinda sad to bid farewell to them too. You understand that feeling, don't you?*sob...sob... Seems like I'm getting maudlin, continue to wait for the new chapter of the manga and animation to come out~

16th Post: Bye bye!

Actually I don't have the intention to blog right now, but somehow after hearing something hilarious, it stimulated me to write it down. Just now when I'm in the room, one of the manager made an announcement through the speaker: '(dunno-wat-)chan-tong-kui-liang from Vietnam, please come to ground floor now.' Ok, I continued to do my stuff. Then in the following 10 minutes, the same announcement was made again for a few times and the tone of the manager got more cantankerous and the last one that she made was:'(dunno-wat-)chan-tong-kui-liang from Vietnam, if you didn't come to the ground floor now......bye bye!'I can't help but laugh at her statement; she's actually making an announcement in front of all the hostel residents of different nationalities, not to mention those whose native language is English, this is simply too funny.

15th Post: Sticky Gum

First of all, there's something that I wanna complain about, that is -- chewing gum! I know it is not the inanimate chewing gum's fault for being thrown everywhere, but somehow I just can't stand it anymore. I've been the victim to this small sticky gum twice this week; first I stepped on it in front of the hostel, and it's so hard to rip it off the base of my slippers, then the second time I actually sat on it which was left on one of the chairs in the class room, and that damn thing stuck on my pants! I felt like shouting execrations to the nefarious jerk who did such uncivilised deed. Maybe chewing gum should be banned so that this kind of problem can be solved once and for all...

Enough about my rant, anyway, I'm getting busier these days. The timetable is packed, lots of activities to deal with, exams coming in months... and this is only the beginning of it. I seriously think that I won't have enough time to prepare for all of them, yet I'm the foolish kind who still want to get myself involved in more activities if I saw some interesting notices on the board, luckily my rationality stopped me... I'm very worried that the activities and exams will clash together since mock exams is supposed to be on next month and there's so many things on the syllables yet to be covered. So, I decided to dedicate more of my time to study, but ya know, to study for a long time is tiring and....*all kinds of excuses...

13th Post: Baldness

School had reopened for a week. This semester I have 2 new subjects to take -- Statistics 1 and Mechanics 1 under further maths, and coincidentally, both of my 2 new lecturers are......bald! Well, the difference is that one of them chose to be bald at his own discretion while the other's shiny head is the inevitable result of ageing. Speaking of which, my other enthusiastic further math lecturer, the 'beloved' mr.J is half bald as well. Can you smell the baldness in the math's textbook?

Once again, the frenzy mr.J came back to haunt us again for this semester. I'm supposed to take only Further Pure Maths Unit 1(FP1) this semester, but he insists that we should take FP2 as well as he can finish it within this short period of time. So here comes the question: What should we do in our next semester if we finished what's supposed to be done at that time so soon? Here comes his bold(bald) answer: Honeymoon......!! Maybe I should pluck off all your remaining hair to let you understand the true meaning of boldness? My life is more miserable now thanks to your baldness.

12th Post: Getting on with Life

Exam's finally all over, i feel so relieved right now, even though i kinda screwed up a few of them... I won't think about that until the actual results come out, ain't going to waste my time crying over spilt milk. So then, a brand new year(in my context) has finally dawned upon me. Chinese New Year's around the corner and I'm going back to kuantan soon, new semester will begin on February, but that doesn't mean I can waste my time fooling around until then. Seriously, this year's going to be a busy year for me and I have to start preparing from now or else I'll be strangled when everything got entwined together. Still, chinese new year's a joyous occasion to be celebrated, looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

New year resolution? Eat a lot and collect lots of ang pau for the upcoming 'winter of money and food' when i go back to college again, haha.

11th Post: Newton's Second Law of Nightmares

Well, I just finished 3 papers yesterday, 2 for maths and 1 for chemistry. Maths was quite ok but I barely have enough time to finish the chemistry paper, I finished the last question at the last minute and don't even have time to check...such nightmare, hopefully I can still get a decent mark. Nevertheless, my last paper lasted until 8pm, quite a tiring day. On the same day, I discovered that newton's second law of motion can be applied to other things as well, not only force, but nightmares also arises in pairs.

I wonder if it is cause by the nightmarish exams or my brain cells have gone haywire from the intense pressure, I had another nightmare that night. In my dream, supposedly when I'm brushing my teeth, I suddenly felt few of my teeth loosened and they came out one after another, accompanied with blood of course. Then the last one that fell off is one of my incisors, you can't imagine my 'pain', though it is imaginary in the 1st place. It's not finished yet, then the worst thing happened... the inner layer of my gum started to peel off and dropped out from my mouth! It's like watching a horror movie, or rather, experiencing one. I woke up after that...though the nightmare is not over yet, 3 more papers to go. Next stop, physics.

10th post: 2009...maybe not

My 1st post in 2009. I'm typing this with a little time squeezed out of my "very busy" schedule, which only has 5 alphabets, S.T.U.D.Y on it. I don't feel like a new year had arrived at all, with the tension of the upcoming exams that has haunted me since last year. While people are happily celebrating the arrival of 2009, I'm with my chemistry book looking at the faraway fireworks in the hostel forlornly... I feel so bored doing the same thing over and again while others is having their new semester, new lessons, new whatsoever... don't tell me i'm having new exams too. My 2009 won't arrive until I've finished my exams...
